PhilArt Injectables - Polynucleotides
Rejuvenate and revitalise your face and body with polynucleotides.
Extracted from highly purified DNA molecules sourced from trout gonads, these natural compounds are harnessed to elevate skin quality by promoting consistent self-repair, refining texture and tone, and enhancing hydration levels. They also assist in reshaping fibrous areas like stretch marks and scars. Polynucleotides function by restoring tissue balance, stimulating regeneration, diminishing fine lines and laxity, and reviving radiance. The outcome? A natural and thorough tissue regeneration, resulting in healthier and more vibrant skin.
Polynucleotides offer versatile solutions for both facial and body treatments, effectively targeting concerns like loss of firmness, tone, and elasticity, signs of aging and photoaging, as well as scars and stretch marks. They can also boost hair density on the scalp. These treatments can be applied to various parts of the face and body, including delicate areas around the eyes, décolleté, neck, back of the hands, and the scalp, promoting overall skin health and rejuvenation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do polynucleotides work?
Utilising PN High Purification Technology, known as PN-HPT®, polynucleotides boost skin hydration and scavenge free radicals, molecules which can damage the skin. This fosters an ideal environment for fibroblast viability and growth, the cells responsible for collagen production. Consequently, polynucleotides stimulate the synthesis of new collagen and elastin fibres, promoting the body's natural cell regeneration process. They can also help to alleviate inflammation and balance melanocyte activity, resulting in a more even and refreshed skin tone. These combined effects lead to improved skin texture, tone, and hydration, ultimately contributing to a healthier appearance and feel.
After injection, polynucleotides activate fibroblasts and restore tissue balance before natural enzymes break them down.
Is polynucleotide treatment safe?
Polynucleotides have a well-documented safety and efficacy record, noted for their high tolerability and minimal risk of adverse effects. Extensive clinical data, including over 100 studies showcased at national and international conferences, support their established safety and efficacy.
The PhilArt products, part of the Croma-Pharma® GmbH portfolio and utilised at Projuvenate, are injectable gels consisting of long-chain polynucleotides sourced from natural origins, specifically European freshwater fish intended for human consumption. The production process is fully controlled to ensure quality and safety at every step. Leveraging PN High Purification Technology, known as PN-HPT®, the manufacturing process means that PhilArt products undergo rigorous purification to eliminate protein contaminants and minimise allergic potential, ensuring safety in tissue regeneration and toning for both the face and body. Am I a suitable candidate for polynucleotide treatment?
To determine suitability for polynucleotide treatment at Projuvenate, a face to face consultation with Dr. Libby is essential. During this session, a comprehensive health history will be obtained, and a physical examination will be conducted to explore suitable treatment options.
In general, polynucleotides are a highly effective standalone treatment that boosts the quality and radiance of all skin types. Whether for anti-aging purposes or as a preventative measure, they serve as biorevitalising agents, enhancing skin structure and elasticity. Additionally, treatment with polynucleotides can be integrated with other aesthetic procedures to prime the skin for optimal results.
However, while polynucleotide treatments offer benefits to many individuals, they are not suitable for everyone. Due to their animal-derived nature, they are not recommended for vegetarians, vegans, or those with fish allergies. Treatment during pregnancy or while breastfeeding should be avoided. Individuals under eighteen should not receive polynucleotide injectables. Additionally, those with certain medical conditions should also avoid them, including: Circulatory disorders, ongoing dermatitis, epilepsy, diabetes, ongoing herpes infection, current infection, previous or ongoing autoimmune diseases or individuals undergoing immunotherapy, severe allergies or ongoing inflammation, known hypersensitivity to the product components*
*Each prefilled syringe contains 2ml of isotonic gel consisting of: polynucleotides (dose depending on treatment area), water for injection, sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium phosphate dibasic dodecahydrate.
What is the recommended treatment protocol for polynucleotides and when are results visible?
The initial step towards any potential treatment at Projuvenate is an initial consultation with Dr. Libby, which is separate from any treatment appointment. This ensures individuals have sufficient time and information to make a voluntary and informed decision about proceeding with an intervention.
If polynucleotide treatment is deemed appropriate as part of a treatment plan, individuals will receive information about before-care, the recommended treatment protocol (which may involve one session every 14-21 days for a total of 2 – 4 sessions - although scalp treatments may require 8 sessions), after-care instructions, and follow-up details.
Although polynucleotides start activating fibroblasts within approximately 30 minutes of injection, their effects are not immediately visible. This is because the skin requires time to undergo cellular-level changes and synthesise and organise collagen. The results improve over time, and it can take approximately 90 days for the desired effects to become noticeable.
Typically, the results of polynucleotide treatments last approximately six months before clients may require a single maintenance session.
How long does a polynucleotide treatment take?
At Projuvenate, we approach polynucleotide treatments with care and attention. Each treatment's duration is tailored to individual needs, ensuring thorough preparation and execution. We prioritise ample appointment time to cover tasks like obtaining consent, applying topical anaesthetic if required, skin preparation, administering injections, and discussing after-care. As a general rule, and to assist with your planning, we would not expect this to exceed 1 hour.
Are there any side effects or complications associated with polynucleotide treatment?
As documented in the consensus report summarising the findings and recommendations of the Italian Scientific Board of aesthetic physicians regarding the use of PN-HPT™ in aesthetic medicine, medical devices based on PN-HPT™ are recognised as a safe and effective strategy for skin rejuvenation, revitalization, and toning of both the face and body. You can read more about this here.
However, like any injectable procedure, there are potential side effects and risks to consider. Mechanical needle action may cause light bleeding and bruising at the injection site, particularly for individuals taking medications with anticoagulant effects or certain herbs. The microdroplets of PhilArt injected initially leave visible blebs/welts that typically disappear within hours, though some may take longer. Pain, stinging, localized swelling, redness, or tenderness may occur, especially around the lip area, potentially triggering cold sore recurrence in susceptible individuals.
Rare side effects may include persistent tingling, pain, swelling, inflammation, infection, or allergic reactions. Very rare complications like compression or compromise of blood supply to the skin, leading to necrosis, skin damage, or scarring, may occur if not promptly addressed.
Is there any preparation needed before polynucleotide treatment?
Before undergoing polynucleotide treatment, we suggest avoiding vigorous exercise and alcohol consumption for 24 hours prior. If possible, please arrive for your appointment without makeup if the treatment area is typically covered. If not, don’t worry, we can remove your make-up at the clinic. Staying well-hydrated is also beneficial for your overall wellbeing.
Do I need to follow any after-care instructions following a polynucleotide treatment?
Following a polynucleotide treatment, it's important to steer clear of direct exposure to natural sunlight or sun lamps for 48 hours. To minimise the risk of swelling, bruising, and infection, avoid vigorous exercise, overheating (such as hot showers, sauna, or steam room), and alcohol consumption for 24 hours. Additionally, maintain skin cleanliness, refrain from wearing make-up for 12 hours, and avoid touching the treatment area for 6 hours.
